Visual InterDev For Dummies and
Active Server Pages For Dummies
Problems Running Visual InterDev and ASP Applications
I've received lots of email
from people who are having trouble getting Visual InterDev and ASP
applications running -- including the applications included in my
books.
I understand how you feel.
The configuration of Internet Information Server, Visual InterDev,
Front Page Extensions, SQL Server and a variety of other software
can be daunting to say the least. It was even more so when I was
writing the book and was working with beta versions!
Although installation and configuration issues are
outside the scope of my book, I want to help you as much as I can
with these issues. Although I can't offer my time to chase down each
problem personally (I wouldn't get anything else done!), I can offer
several different avenues for you to persue to get help with your
problems.
First Stop: Check the Errata
First, I have created pages which contain lists of all
the errors in the books that I have noticed or been made aware of,
along with a description of how they should be corrected. Links to
these errata pages are listed below. Check to be sure the error your
running into isn't because of a goof-up in the book.
I've created a Question and Answers Page for
Active Server Pages and Visual InterDev. If you have a question,
just email it to me by clicking the link on the page. If I know the
answer, I'll post it along with the question for others to see. If I
don't, I'll post the question and give others a chance to answer the
question by sending me email. I'll post all the answers I get.
Hopefully one of them will work for you. Access the ASP/VI Q&A Page
here.
Third Stop: Other Places To Get
Help
Finally, I've compiled a list of the places you can go to get
help for your problems. I've tried to think of all that I can, but
if you get help other places, be sure to email me
and let me know so I can add your place to this list.
First, check the
newsgroup(s) most approprate to your problem. See if anyone else in
the newsgroup is asking the same question you are and then see how
others have responded. Otherwise, you can post your own question and
then check back in a day or so to see what responses you've gotten.
It's easy and it's fast. Here are a list of some of the newsgroups
you might want to check out. They are all on Microsoft's newsgroup
server which can be found at
msnews.microsoft.com.
